Lamb 1 was sick on Sunday so I took Lamb 2 and 3 to church by myself while Ram stayed home with Lamb 1 and watched our church service online. It is so different that Ram now stays home from church with sick Lambs after many years of me staying home with sick Lambs while he was the pastor.
Sunday afternoon we took our Christmas tree down and put it in storage. Monday the weather wasn't too good and my mom and our family all had chiropractor appointments so we gave her a ride, had our adjustments, and took her home.
Ram, Lamb 1, and Lamb 3 were sick at the beginning of the week. It wasn't too bad, it was mostly a frog in their throat, but not sore throats or fevers. We took lots of vitamins and ran humidifiers in the Lambs rooms. We're not completely over it, but much better. I spent more time with the Lambs going through stuff in their room and getting more stuff ready for give away. We got back to our routine of practicing piano, the Lambs did their piano theory, and we got back to a little homeschool. I did some school planning, especially planning what I want Lamb 1 to do with me this last semester before high school.
On Thursday Ram and I finally had our anniversary date. Fort Wayne has a local restaurant deal so for one price we got appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. It was really good food. We had been given some money for Christmas for us to go out on a date and with this deal we didn't even spend all that money. The Lambs were glad to go over to my parents while we went out, it had been a while since my mom was healthy enough to watch them. I was so glad everyone was healthy and Ram and I made it out on a date before his school vacation ended.
On Friday there was ice and a couple of inches of snow so most schools in the area canceled. Lamb 2 had a vision therapy evaluation so we braved the roads in the early afternoon and by then it wasn't too bad. This was the first exam so he has an appointment for a longer exam in a few weeks. It is looking like he will need to do more VT. I'm excited for him to have a chance to work with a different doctor/therapists when he is a couple of years older. I don't regret him doing VT in ID in 2014, it just wasn't enough. His eyes are still having a lot of trouble focusing on the page to read. In ID, VT was very close to our house, here VT will be a little drive. But if he can benefit from this then we are willing to drive.
Today I will go to church and Ladies Aid while the Lambs stay home one last Saturday to hopefully get a little more healthy, but also because we will be back to full routine next week.
Next week Ram returns to class, piano lessons begin again, there is a conference at the Seminary so many friends will be in town, and we will try to get back to our full homeschool schedule. For Ram to have a month off of school for Christmas was wonderful, but it went all too quickly.
My plan is to finish the year in review posts and then attempt to blog 2-3 times a week with at least one of those being a weekly family update.

End of Summer Family Update
1. We had a busy summer, but now I am going to try to get back to blogging at least a few times a week. We are back to homeschool with the goal of getting Lamb 1 ready for high school and Lamb 2 and Lamb 3 reading better this year. We are doing some school now and will add all the subjects after Labor Day.
2. We have been battling being sick off and on over the past few weeks. I can't figure it out, only some Lambs have had some kind of stomach bug. I am tired of doing laundry, cleaning the bathroom, and contacting people that we have to cancel our plans. Hopefully we finish this and can get on to our regular routine.
3. Lamb 1 and 2 are doing cross country with the Lutheran schools in our area. I didn't miss chauffeuring, but I did miss being part of a group since we didn't do cross country last fall after moving. The bonus is this is a Lutheran group and I love that the boys are meeting such nice Christian kids and that they pray together at practice and meets.
4. Ram is doing a graduate assistantship that pays really well, but he will be gone an extra 10 hours a week doing that in addition to his classes and studying. I have tried to get organized to get ready for some long days being mom/teacher/chef/chauffeur/maid etc. by myself. We were spoiled that Ram just had one class this summer so it is an extra shock. We will look forward to Thanksgiving Break!
5. We did a little house shopping and went to a few open houses this summer. I would love to buy a house and get settled instead of being in limbo with many of our belongings still packed up. Nothing in our price range in the location we want jumped out at us. The market is crazy here, often going $10,000 above asking price and often selling within hours. That was great when we were on the seller end, but terrible when we are on the buyer end. The good news is we are welcome to keep renting so we plan to stay here at least another year.
6. Ram is planning to take classes for this whole school year and then begin his practicum and internship after that. We are looking at him graduating in summer 2019.

Quick Family Update
1. I think we are finally all healthy. We missed a week of homeschool while the Lambs and I were sick with a cold/cough/fever. It was a rough week where nothing got done. This week is very busy making up doctor checkups etc. It was so ridiculous that I was too sick to go to the doctor for a thyroid checkup and appointments like that. We are finally scheduled to make some of that up. I am so thankful that we never had stomach flu at our house, just the colds.
2. Our church had a wedding on Feb. 5 during the regular Sunday morning service. I do plan to blog more about the wedding soon. The wedding reminded me of our wedding with the same version of the Te Deum that we used. Ram was happy to have a copy of the music in front of him because he did not have a copy during our wedding and he did not have it memorized like I did!
3. Our church has a fish fry fundraiser for medical expenses for one of our members coming up on Friday. We are happy to be going to help on the fundraiser day. I am so impressed with all the behind the scenes work people from our congregation are doing to get ready for this fundraiser. We are praying for a very successful fundraiser to help this family.
4. The ladies at my mom's church are having an apron party this spring. I have dug out some of my books and aprons to help my mom with her planning. It has been fun to get all that out and look at it again.
5. I volunteered to present at a teacher's conference this fall. I don't know if I will be asked to speak or if they will have enough speakers, but I am hoping for a chance to do a little back in the teaching world again.
6. Ram is working hard on his schooling. Reading, writing papers, and doing interviews are all going well.
7. The Lambs are continuing with homeschooling and piano lessons and confirmation class at church. We just keep plugging along and when we finish one book we go on to the next.
8. Because I was sick I have not gotten everything together for our tax lady yet. Hopefully I can finish that by early next week.
9. The dishwasher is fixed. There was some food stuck in it and when that was removed it worked fine. It motivates me to scrape/rinse the dishes a little more. If I owned this house I would invest in a better dishwasher, but I don't so it means scraping and rinsing better.
10. We are studying what activities and day camps this area offers for this summer. So far Lamb 1 and 2 want to do several camps and Lamb 3 hasn't found any that he is interested in. I think it will be a very busy couple of months being chauffeur for what each Lamb is interested in. I am going to look into what the Science Museum offers because I think that is more what Lamb 3 would like to do instead of sports like his brothers. I am happy to let them do different activities in the summer for a week or two instead of committing to an entire fall or entire spring of chauffeuring. Plus I like that they can try out a wide variety of activities and see what interests they would like to pursue more.

My first
Today was the first time in almost 13 years that I went to church on Sunday morning by myself. When Ram was a pastor in the parish, it was up to me to stay home with sick Lambs. Today Ram stayed home with the sick Lambs. All 3 Lambs have fevers and coughs. I've already told their piano teacher they won't be at lessons this week. This may be a long week, especially if sickness is traded around and back again to different family members. After church I went shopping for more Tylenol for the Lambs, a new humidifier filter, and lots of juice.

Sickness Round 3
Here is what has happened in March:
March 1: Lamb 2 got sick at the post office, canceled piano lessons
March 2-3: No activities, Lamb 2 not well, missed roller skating with PE class
March 4-5: Ram's parents were here for Lamb 1's birthday. On Saturday we went out to lunch with Ram's cousin that moved to Boise.
March 6: Church, Sunday School, last Downton Abbey
March 7: First track practice
March 8: Ewe prepared breakfast for the area pastors that met for a meeting at our church, our family went out to lunch with the pastors, piano lessons, listen to Concordia Seward choir at an area church in the evening.
March 9: Lent Supper and Church
March 10: Lamb 3 got sick during school in the schoolroom-I spent the rest of the day cleaning up the mess and doing laundry. No activities, missed parkour with PE class
March 11: Ewe and the Lambs no activities, Ram ran lots of errands
March 12: Lamb 1 and 2 did awesome at their first piano contest, did some shopping including new shoes for Lamb 1
March 13: Church and Sunday School, Lamb 1 spent some of his birthday money shopping online, Lamb 3 made his birthday wish list
March 14: Lambs went to track practice, there was hail for about 15 minutes of practice
March 15: Lamb 1 and 2 piano lessons, Lamb 2 and 3 did several math lessons so they could finish their math books
March 16: Lamb 1 woke up not feeling well. He got sick right before his orthodontist appointment. No orthodontist or supper or Lent service for him today. Lamb 2 and 3 begged to go to Lent service because it is the last one this year. Hopefully I don't regret allowing them to go without me.
March 17: Will we go to PE tomorrow?
Next Week: It would be right on schedule for Ram to get this sickness during Holy Week!
I must say I am getting lots of projects done at home while I have to stay home with sick kids! Although by the third round of cleaning my house well, I'm ready for everyone to be healthy.

Sick Lamb
In my decluttering, I found some books and other items to mail to friends and family. I spent a little while organizing everything to mail and packaging it up. I got everything ready so I only needed to make one trip to the post office.
The Lambs have piano lessons over by a post office, so we left early for piano lessons and went to mail 8 packages. The Lambs were being so helpful at the post office, handing one package at a time to the post lady. When we were about halfway done with the packages, Lamb 2 got sick. There was no warning other than he wasn't very hungry at lunch. He didn't eat with us, but he ate lunch before we left for piano lessons.
I sent Lamb 2 outside to the trash can and sent Lamb 1 to be with him in case he needed help. The post lady sent a custodian that just picked up the rug Lamb 2 got sick on and took it to the back room to clean it. We finished with my packages quickly and I went to check on Lamb 2. We drove over to the library so Lamb 2 could attempt to clean himself up. Then we stopped at the piano teacher's house and said we wouldn't be coming to lessons. The teacher was concerned because they missed their second to the last lesson before music contest. I'm not concerned because they have one more lesson before contest.
I don't know if the post lady felt bad because of what happened, but she said the Lambs were so helpful and well behaved that she wanted to give them lollypops for when Lamb 2 felt better.
We came home and Lamb 2 changed his clothes. He ate gentle foods for his stomach the rest of the day. He checked his temperature a few times and reported the results to me. He fell asleep downstairs so Ram took him to his bed and he went to sleep early. He woke up feeling better, but I'm still watching what he eats.
What is amazing to me is how different this round of being sick is from even a few years ago. Lamb 2 did almost everything to take care of himself. I only had one extra set of clothes to wash. Lamb 1 is concerned about getting sick as his birthday is on Saturday, but he was still helpful to Lamb 2. This part of having pre-teen boys is great.

Our Thanksgiving weekend
Before Thanksgiving my friend Joelle was sick. We were praying for her that she would get well and no one else in her family would get ill so she could enjoy Thanksgiving. I told her then that we were all healthy.
On Tuesday I started to get a runny nose. I thought it was from working with dusty books in my organization project. I took a box of tissues to church with me on Wednesday evening. Ram told me then that I was sick, it wasn't just working with books.
I was determined to not miss Thanksgiving so arose very early on Thursday to do everything I could do to get better. I took Airborne, used the neti pot, used essential oils, took a shower, and packed for our trip. We got off much later than I would have liked, but made it safely to Ram's parents. After listening to the weather we did take the shorter way to their house through the mountains. There were some foggy spots but thankfully not icy.
Ram's parents worked on dinner while we drove. My MIL made a completely Paleo meal that was delicious. After way too much food and not feeling well I crashed on the couch until bedtime. Ram's dad shared some Zicam with me and it really helped.
Friday and Saturday we didn't go anywhere, the Lambs watched a lot of TV. Lamb 2 and 3 played outside in the snow. We spent the next couple of days eating leftovers. It was wonderful since I was sick to not have to cook. Every day I felt a little better. Even though I was sick we love going to Ram's parents house and relaxing.
We left on Saturday in time to make it back to the interstate before it was dark. We ate leftovers after unloading the car. We went to bed early.
Sunday I woke up coughing- the cold had now gone to my chest. I sounded terrible enough that I decided not to go to church. Lamb 1 and 3 stayed home with me and Lamb 2 went with Papa to church by himself. I missed a Voter's meeting too.
Sunday afternoon I had planned to do a little shopping and get on a few Black Friday weekend deals. There was no way I was able to do any of that.
Later that afternoon Ram and I did order a couple of items. We got a treat for the Lambs from Kohls. I used Giving Assistant, got free shipping, a coupon code from Kohls, and got Kohls rewards points plus Kohls cash to use this week to buy something that was already on sale. It ended up being a really good deal on something they will love.
Ram and I both had some unredeemed Barnes and Noble cards which I couldn't believe because Ram always uses bookstore gift cards immediately. We got 30% off of one book and free shipping and hopefully we used Giving Assistant correctly here too.
Last we ordered a few items from Amazon. We used Be Well gift cards to buy a gift for Ram's mom, get a book 30% off, buy one more book, and get free shipping.
After 2 nights with the humidifier I felt a lot better this morning even if I didn't sound like it. We did school. We all got chiropractor adjustments. I used a code for free prints for Shutterfly before it expired tonight. Lamb 1 had Cub Scouts tonight.
No one else besides me got sick although Ram has a sore throat today. I am hoping as a pastor during Advent he doesn't get this. This week I need to do final preparations to host a table at our Ladies Advent tea and also to lead crafts for Sunday School. Other than that I am going to rest and try to get healthy.
Ram's mom did Thanksgiving by herself except we brought store bought pies. It will be my turn to host Christmas. Ram's mom and I have were already brainstormed Christmas recipes. As soon as I'm healthy I'm going to start planning Christmas dinner!

Pi Day part 2
Lamb 3 is still sick. I took him to the Dr. this morning. Nothing they can do for him, just home remedies. They said if it is the flu that is going around the schools now, I should expect 10 days before back to normal! I'm taking it one day at a time...
For supper on pi day we made a few pies.

Good news and bad news
Bad news: Lamb 3 was sick last night. He threw up several times while Ram and the other Lambs slept through it all. I didn't get much sleep because I needed to help him several times. He took a shower early this morning and then slept in. I am busy cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry today. I'm praying everyone gets healthy before Lamb 1's standardized testing next week and also his birthday party.
Good news: Lamb 3 seems to be fine now and no one else seems to have it. He's taking it easy eating-saltines and pop today.
Good news: We qualified for a small earned income credit on our taxes.
Bad news: I didn't expect to qualify so I didn't send in the correct paperwork. Now we need to get the proper signatures. I understand that they want to prevent tax fraud, but this is a pain.
Good or bad news?: The Lambs and Ram are scheduled to go on a hike tomorrow with Cub Scouts. I'm not sure they will all be healthy enough to do that tomorrow. There will be some disappointed Lambs if they can't. I'm not sure how much Ram wants to go so it may be good news for him if they can't. I conveniently have a meeting at church to attend at the same time.
Good news: Lamb 3 seems to be fine now and no one else seems to have it. He's taking it easy eating-saltines and pop today.
Good news: We qualified for a small earned income credit on our taxes.
Bad news: I didn't expect to qualify so I didn't send in the correct paperwork. Now we need to get the proper signatures. I understand that they want to prevent tax fraud, but this is a pain.
Good or bad news?: The Lambs and Ram are scheduled to go on a hike tomorrow with Cub Scouts. I'm not sure they will all be healthy enough to do that tomorrow. Lamb 1 is sick

About midnight last night Lamb 1 threw up. He had been complaining all day that his stomach was upset. I thought he had just eaten a lot differently the night before than we usually do-diet pop, more sweets, more fruit, and lots more gluten than we normally eat.
Then this morning he had diarrhea. He took a shower and I changed all his sheets including his mattress pad. I had a lot of laundry to do today. I cleaned their whole bathroom well.
So we sent notices to Cub Scouts that we would not be attending and Ram told the church ladies that we wouldn't be there tonight. Lamb 1 was very careful what he ate today-he did not want to repeat last night. The other two Lambs have a touch of this because their behavior has been terrible the last few days.
Lamb 1 posted this sign on the door and the neighbor boy still rang the doorbell this afternoon. Lamb 1 yelled at him, "Didn't you see the sign?" A salesman also came today but he did not ring the doorbell after seeing the sign, just left his literature.
I am really hoping that we can all get a good night's sleep and that I do not get this before my scheduled dental work tomorrow!

Not in the plans
A couple of Loopers gave me directions and this idea. Last Sunday we made butterflies out of tissue paper and clothespins. The butterflies had the word "Alleluia" on them. One Looper helped with directions to make the butterflies.
Today was the big day that it was planned to have a children's sermon in church, bury the butterflies and Alleluias before Lent. Then the congregation was to sing LSB 417 and sing lots of Alleluias one more time before Lent. It took some planning on Ram's part to figure this all out because we don't have LSB at the church that has Sunday School with young kids in it. We found out the words were in public domain and another familiar tune that was also in the public domain that would work with it. I am so thankful for Loopers to help us with this as Ram doesn't have music experience.
But...this morning Lamb 1 came in our room at 5am and said he felt sick. Lamb 1 never comes in our room so I assumed he was really sick. He didn't have a temperature and he never actually threw up. Last night my stomach was upset and I assumed I had eaten too much sugar and junk food on Lamb 1's birthday. I wondered if maybe both of us had a bug. I called the Sunday School teacher and told her we wouldn't be coming today.
Ram was going to try to do the object lesson with the other kids. Unfortunately our boys make up half of the Sunday School. There is only one other family with kids unless there were visitors at church. Our Lambs made the butterflies but had no idea what we were going to do with them. They won't really get the butterflies being "released" on Easter because they weren't there to bury them. Lamb 1 played with his brothers all this morning and never got sick. Oh well, there's always next year.
This week I will try to return to the rural pastor's wife series for a few more posts.

Chamomile Lemonade
Long story how I got this recipe, but it is from vegetariantimes.com. On Saturday I bought 2 boxes of chamomile tea (98 cents each at Walmart) and 1 bag organic lemons ($4 at Walmart) and I already had some pure cane raw sugar in the cupboard (a recipe I was always going to try, but never did). I made a double batch on Saturday night and Ram and I drank it all before Sunday afternoon. I felt like I was getting a cold on Saturday afternoon and after drinking this I felt great by Sunday morning.
The recipe says that regular chamomile tea drinkers have elevated levels of hippurate, an antibacterial compound that can help fight infections brought on by colds. This recipe also delivers a healthful dose of vitamin C.
1/2 cup cane sugar
2 Tbs. grated lemon zest
6 chamomile tea bags
3/4 cup lemon juice
lemon slices for garnish
Combine sugar, lemon zest, and 2 cups water in saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat, add chamomile. Cool.
Strain chamomile mixture into a 2 qt. pitcher. Stir in lemon juice and 3 cups water. Serve over ice with lemon slices, or store covered in refrigerator up to 5 days. (I bet you can't keep it in the house for 5 days-we couldn't even keep a double batch in the house for 24 hours!)

Huge Prayer Request-Interruption in Vacation posting
It may be awhile before I return to posting about our fall vacation.
Ram went for a physical in June and his blood work was abnormal. The doctors kept thinking they finally found what was wrong, but their assumptions were always not quite right. Ram met with two doctors today and they finally found what was wrong. He has a mass growing on his kidney that has a very good chance of being cancer. They will not know for sure if it is cancer until he has the mass removed. Ram will go to Mayo next week to meet with a specialist and there is a very good chance that a few days later he will have this surgery. There will be about 6 weeks recovery time. We don't have a laptop or a smart phone and I don't do Facebook, so I have no idea when I will be able to post, but I will try to keep you updated.
Prayer requests:
*Ram to get healthy
*Doctors to do what is best for Ram
*Ewe to navigate Mayo (we have had a few church members there, but we have never been there)
*Lambs to survive being out of their routine, we don't even know what is happening to prepare them, plus they are Papa's boys
*safe travel
*all four of our parents may be coming to help-safe travel for them and if they do come that the details will work out for them to come
*that this surgery is the end of Ram's medical adventures for now

*The first diagnosis Ram was given earlier this summer said that Ram would need to take a pill for the rest of his life that is not usually given to someone as young as him and could cause birth defects. We are hoping that our family size is not done yet, so we prayed that there was a different pill he could take or the doctor would find another answer. We had no idea his diagnosis would take this turn when we prayed.
*I am thankful that we began doctoring about a year ago with a new doctor that was very careful and kept ordering new tests and sending Ram to different specialists until she got to the bottom of this. I'm not sure an average doctor would have even done a blood test on hemoglobin on a 35 year old in the first place. That abnormal number started all this earlier this summer. We have always liked our new doctor, now we love her!
*I am thankful that Ram came back early from our vacation so he had a doctor's appointment while we were still gone where they discovered this answer.
*I am thankful that we live in the same state as Mayo and have been given the gift of a doctor that does this surgery as his specialty. (I won't complain of how far from Mayo we live though!)
*I am thankful that my dad can come help Ram with preaching while Ram recovers.
*I am thankful that we homeschool so we can deal with this without worrying about getting Lamb 1 to school daily.
*I am thankful for church members that have been understanding at this time.
*I am thankful we bought the CD titled Hymns of Comfort and Hope to listen to now.
*I am thankful for health insurance.
*I am thankful that our youngest is 2 1/2 when we are dealing with this now-it would be a lot more difficult with a breastfeeding infant.
*I am thankful that Jesus is the healer of all disease and he is with us always in all troubles here on earth.

I'm still here
On Sunday when we got home from church, the garage door wouldn't close with the garage door opener. Then when I tried to turn on the computer it wouldn't turn on. Ram was busy with meetings that afternoon and we had to get ready to travel on Monday so we didn't have time to look at the computer or the garage door.
I had my thyroid biopsy on Monday. I was stuck with a needle on two sides and they took about five samples on each side. On Wednesday the doctor's office called and reported that there was no cancer. After this biopsy I don't need to do anything else unless I experience thyroid problems until I need to have another ultrasound in 2 years. The biopsy was a bigger deal than I thought it would be and I hope I don't need to have another one again, but at least it will be two more years until the possibility of another one. I was thankful that the hospital has lots of crucifixes and annoyed that there wasn't a crucifix in the room where I had my procedure. It was a long car ride home as I just wanted to sleep and the Lambs were not ready to sleep that early in the day.
I was sore after the biopsy and took Tuesday to recover. Ram took the computer to the fix it shop on Tuesday. Wednesday I took the Lambs to a magic show at the library. Wednesday night I didn't feel well. Ram was at VBS. I was trying to figure out if I could just let the Lambs play until he got home and he could put them to bed. I had a headache and started to feel very nauseous. It got worse. I finally called Ram and asked him to come home early. I slept all night after he got home. He put the Lambs to bed. I think I had a migraine but I've never felt that way before so I'm not sure. It could have been triggered with the thyroid biopsy a few days before or just triggered by something else. Ram got the computer back on Wednesday but I didn't use it because I didn't feel well.
This morning I got up and took a shower and went to the chiropractor. I felt well enough to take the Lambs to a play tonight and then we went out to eat. The play took longer than I expected and Ram had to go to VBS so I had 3 active Lambs at a tea room by myself. We survived and I'm sure the owner was glad when we left because she had a big party of ladies there too. I'm still achy and don't feel 100% better, but I hope by taking it slow I'll recover soon. I've used the computer a little bit but have lots to catch up on after it was gone for a few days.
Tomorrow we don't have any plans except for school and stay around home while Ram makes some visits.

Ewe's thyroid
I went to the Dr. 3 hours away on June 4 and had everything done in one day-blood tests, saw Dr. and thyroid ultrasound. My blood test came back normal which is good, but after months of being low, the Dr. doesn't know why it was normal. So I am to repeat the blood tests in 6 weeks and hope that they are normal then and hopefully repeat the blood tests in 3 months and they will be normal again. IF everything is normal then we can TTC again. For the first time she explained that the two main drugs they give for thyroid-1 has the chance of causing birth defects and the other one has the chance of causing liver problems. So the Dr. would really like my blood tests to be normal for several months before we try to get pregnant. So it was good news that the blood tests were normal on June 4 and we pray that it remains that way.
I have had thyroid ultrasounds every year or two for the past 6 years. For the first time, the ultrasound showed two nodules that were bigger than the Dr. would like to see. I am scheduled on Monday for a needle thyroid biopsy. 90% of these biopsys are not cancerous. I have never had a thyroid biopsy before. Please pray for me to do well for this biopsy and for good results. Sick
Warning: This post is disgusting!
On Friday night we got home really late and I felt dizzy as we unloaded the car. I thought I was just overtired.
On Sunday Lamb 2 threw up multiple times. He was fine by bedtime. After I put the boys to bed I felt sick, but before I went to bed, I felt better.
On Monday I felt sick in the afternoon. Our nightmare of a night began then. Ram took turns on the toilet and throwing up and sometimes both at once. I felt like I needed to throw up, but I couldn't. Lamb 1 threw up in a bowl while Ram was on the toilet, and I had put my bowl down to help Lamb 1 so I ended up throwing up in the bathroom sink. In the middle of the night then Lamb 3 joined us. I spent the entire night helping Lamb 1, then Lamb 3, then throwing up myself, and listening to Ram. Ram helped as much as he could but he was in worse shape than I was. The only good thing was Lamb 2 slept through most of this and never threw up last night.
I finally got the idea to put a disposable changing pad under Lamb 3 in the pack n play. Then we he threw up I just changed pads. He had no idea how to throw up in a bowl and was too tired to barely sit up to puke.
The Lambs slept in a little bit this morning, but now they are playing and fine. Our house is a disaster-lots of dishes to do but I can't go in the kitchen without puking. The bathroom has tons of laundry but I don't have the energy to take it downstairs and start the washer. And there is trash everywhere from these disposable changing pads etc.
Ram and I need to figure out what to feed the Lambs as it's 12:30 and they haven't had anything besides drink this morning.
We have never all been sick at once. Ram called and canceled his nursing home visits today. Hopefully he can get his sermon written for the funeral tomorrow. Ram and I both ache all over.

My doctor appointment
We drove 2 hours one way and I spent less than 30 minutes with the doctor. He explained the different lab tests they can do. Unfortunately since the tests are sent to Mayo, the tests could not be done on Friday. They have to be done early in the week, in the morning so there is time to send them to Mayo. He was trying to figure out how I could get the lab work done closer to home. The nurse explained how expensive these tests are and how important it was to get them done in the morning etc. I decided then that I would rather go back to their lab instead of risking the local lab messing it up. So I will make the 4 hour round trip on Monday by myself to get the lab work done.
Ram and I are also both going to take some antibiotics. There is the possibility that one of us has an infection. It's cheaper and easier to treat with a low dose antibiotic than to test both of us for all the infections. If I get pregnant again I am to take a baby aspirin daily too.
The doctor's attitude (although he wasn't this blunt) was that I've had the same number of pregnancies as miscarriages so assuming that my labs come back normal (and he assumes they will because I had 3 births), that Ram and I should just keep trying. When I first heard this, I thought this was a terrible "plan" for a pro-life family to have. But Ram doesn't see it that way. He sees it as there is only so much a doctor can do and so much we can afford. The doctor is doing what he can do now to run these lab tests. He is doing something. But there is also much about miscarriage that doctors don't know and can't do anything about. If the lab tests come back with a problem they can treat, they will do something about that. But if the lab tests come back normal, then the best we can do is keep trying.
We are getting a tax refund. I have no idea how much insurance will pay for these tests, so our tax refund may be spent on this. We also received more bills today-one for x-rays of my sprained foot last May and one for my recent ultrasounds for miscarriage. I think it will be a long time before these medical bills are finished.

The Lambs and Ram stayed in the car while I went into the doctor. Lamb 3 is much better and he took a long nap this afternoon. We'll try to encourage him to drink the pedialyte and liquids. I'm waiting for my turn to get the flu now...

I did not know where this doctor was located so we all went today. Lamb 3 threw up on the way to the doctor. He had only had milk before he threw up. The Lambs and Ram stayed in the car while I went into the doctor. Then we ate lunch and got some pedialyte at Walmart (which was a pain because they were renovating the Walmart and nothing was in the right place) and came home. Lamb 3 is much better and he took a long nap this afternoon. We'll try to encourage him to drink the pedialyte and liquids. I'm waiting for my turn to get the flu now...
I was very hopeful about this doctor appointment. It was clear to me that I am still to do baby steps. Step 1: Get these labs done on Monday. Step 2: Wait several weeks for the labs to come back and for the doctor to write me a letter about the results. Step 3: Try not to worry about step 1 and 2 while I'm waiting. Step 4: I can't do step 4 until step 1 and 2 are done, so don't worry about it yet.

Prayer Requests
1. Ram got the flu last night-the bad kind of flu out both ends at the same time-plus he had the chills and couldn't stand being out of bed while he was at the toilet. Please pray for him to get better, for the Lambs to not get this again, and for me to not get it. Lamb 2 had the flu a week ago Wednesday so it has been in our family over a week.
2. Tomorrow I have my appointment with the OB/GYN. When I made the appointment it seemed like a long time away. I made the appointment for tomorrow because we are so busy during Lent, I wanted it to be after my sister visited, but before my parents visited, etc. Lent and March flew by and the appointment is tomorrow! Please pray that I don't get the flu before/during my appointment tomorrow. Please pray that I have wisdom to answer the doctor's questions. Please pray that the doctor has wisdom for what is causing my miscarriages.
I typed up 3 pages of everything I could think of that happened with my pregnancies and miscarriages. I am hoping that something in my writing is helpful for the doctor to make a connection for what may be wrong. I have a little drive to get to this specialist so please pray that my appointment is productive.
In other news, we have the mud problem again like last fall. The town can't do anything until it dries enough to put down more gravel and make the roads again. I didn't realize it was as bad as it was and we walked to church last night. The Lambs wore boots and I wore some shoes that were already muddy. It was sticky mud but we did ok getting there. Then on the way home in the dark, my shoe got stuck in the mud and I had to walk across the rest of the way barefoot. Lamb 2 got completely stuck in the mud. Lamb 1 went back to get my shoe and got stuck. I will be doing lots of laundry today-both from the mud on our church clothes last night and I'm still not caught up with the Lambs laundry from the flu. Lamb 1 said we needed to clean our shoes today and was trying to think of ways to get across the mud without getting stuck. I declared that we are driving to church next time. That will be a pain to load everyone in the car and because of mud we will have to drive 4 blocks to go to the church next door, but it will be better than dealing with all this mud again!

Taxes
I have to get all our information together, but then we send our taxes to a wonderful tax preparer that specializes in church workers in Fort Wayne, IN. We could probably do them ourselves to save money, but it is nice to send them to her and get them done. While I was gathering receipts I realized, there is much in these receipts that tells about our family. Here's some of what I noticed/remembered about 2009 for our family when I got the tax information together.
Medical: *We drove 2236 miles to doctors and dentists.
*Our portion of the copayments and other payments after deductibles was $1884.22.
*Lamb 1 had his hearing tested in January 2009. After several years of borderline not being able to hear the low registers of sounds, he passed the tests completely this time!
*Ewe sprained her foot in May.
*In June, the Lambs got a rash right before our vacation. We just had to wait for the rash to go away. They were grouchy the whole drive to CO. Ewe's poor parents had to put up with this.
*Lamb 2 had to go to the ER in August when he got a snail shell stuck in his nose.
*We had a miscarriage in September.
*Ewe had a sinus infection in September.
*Lamb 2 had a seizure when we had the regular flu in November. Sometimes children get seizures when they are ill. Dr. was not worried about this one time event even though it scared Ewe!
*Ewe had an ear infection and was sick with the regular flu in November.
*Ewe got her finger stuck in the garage door in December.
*Lamb 2 had his hearing tested in December and passed the tests.
*Even with all this, we were pretty healthy in 2009. We try to go to the chiropractor once a month, but we rarely go to the doctor besides well-child checkups and the injuries I mentioned.
Ram as a pastor: *Ram did 8 funerals in 2009.
*Ram drove 11214 miles for church. This does not include going to conferences. This is just visiting members, going to church services, and going to meetings.
*Ram got a new cell phone in 2009.
*Ram went to a few conferences in MN by himself. We all went along to WI for a retreat and we were able to attend the Divine Service one night at CCA even though we weren't able to stay for CCA this year. This was the first year that Ram did so little for conferences-he didn't go to Symposium in Fort Wayne or stay for CCA. It was also the first year that we didn't go along to any of the conferences in MN.
Our home: *Lamb 2 moved out of the crib onto a mattress on the floor in 2009.
*Rams parents brought us their old kitchen table in March.
*We gave up TV in January 2009.

Sickness Update
All the Lambs are feeling better and Ram never got sick this round. Ram took Lamb 1 and 2 to ECFE this afternoon. It was his first time taking the boys to ECFE.
Ram made me go to the doctor because I still wasn't better after one week. The doctor agreed that I should be better from regular flu by now. She put me on antibiotics to hopefully help my cough and also help my possible ear infection. I had so much wax that she couldn't actually see my ear drum. In the old days (aka when I was a child) they would clean all that wax out. Now they don't want to disturb the possible ear infection nor risk putting a hole in the ear drum. I have memories of the pain of cleaning out the wax so I was happy we didn't have to do that today.
I took Lamb 3 with me to the doctor because he had not been without a fever for 24 hours so I didn't want to send him to ECFE. It made Ram's job to go to ECFE much easier without Lamb 3. Lamb 3 was scared of my nurse and doctor and afraid they were going to check on him.
This has all been more complicated because our previous doctor got burned out and moved away. It is difficult to be a doctor in this rural area. So we chose to go to a closer town with several doctors but one brand new female doctor. Our previous doctors since we moved here were all Asian. This new doctor graduated from high school when I graduated from college so she is just a few years younger than me. She grew up in this area and wanted to come home. I am hoping that we can stick with her as our doctor for awhile. It was a little strange going to the doctor today and not having to pay such close attention to her accent. I liked hearing English!
